Clare’s Independent TD is calling for urgent action to address what he’s called the “financial discrimination” created when pension entitlements were changed.
Changes made in 2012 saw women who took time out of employment to raise families before 1994, receive smaller pension entitlements.
Last week’s budget included a pension increase but didn’t address the anomalies, prompting Fianna Fáil and others calling for the issue to be addressed.

This was passed by TDs yesterday in a motion which saw the government defeated, and now Dr Michael Harty believes it now needs to move quickly on the issue.
