Health Service ‘Ready For Ebola’

The Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health says the risk of Ebola coming into Ireland is low, but should a case be identified, the health service is prepared to deal with it.

Dr Tony Holohan's comments come as the Cabinet meet today to discuss the Ebola crisis, with each Minister giving an update as to their own specific areas of responsibility.

Britain and America are introducing screening for the virus at some airport and railway terminals – but the HSE says there are no plans to introduce a screening programme here.

The World Health Organisation is warning that the spread of Ebola into Europe is "unavoidable".
