All pubs in the country are being asked to shut their doors for the next two weeks.
The government says it’s after reports of “reckless” behaviour by the public at licenced premises last night, particularly in Dublin.
The Licenced Vintners’ Association and the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland are backing the government’s call, which was made this evening.
Before that, a number of local pubs throughout the county had already announced their decisions to close up, in the interests of public safety.
Other businesses, including some shops in Ennis, and also the Queens and Temple Gate Hotels in the town, and the Armada and Red Cliff Lodge Hotels in Spanish Point have announced they’re shutting temporarily, following on from a similar announcement this week from Treacy’s West County.
Calls are now being made for the goverment to step in and support traders, and their staff.
