The government is being urged to act now and put supports in place to avoid a major crisis in the region’s main hospital this winter.
An emergency meeting of the Midwest Hospital Campaign has been called for next Monday, amid concerns over spiralling trolley numbers at University Hospital Limerick in recent weeks.
This month saw UHL break its own national record, with 82 patients left waiting on trolleys on one day, and the campaign group is concerned that with the winter approaching, this will be easily eclipsed.
Ballyvaughan Sinn Féin representative Noeleen Moran, who is one of the organisers, says the figures can’t continue to climb indefinitely:
That meeting takes place in the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis next Monday evening at 8pm.
