It had been anticipated that the election would be called today but that's now not the case.

The Taoiseach met Tánaiste Joan Burton this morning – and while ultimately the decision is entirely his, it's understood they've agreed the election will take place on Friday, February 26th.

Effectively all that's left now is for Mr Kenny to travel to Aras an Uachtarain and seek the dissolution of the Dáil – but he's not now expected to do that until tomorrow.

The Environment Minister says he's confident the current government will be returned to power after the general election.

Alan Kelly says he's looking forward to the vote.

As the campaign for a dáil seat heats up, health appears to be the biggest issue affecting people in Clare.

A survey of almost 1,200 people shows that for 37% of people, health is the main issue of concern, while employment and taxes attracted the second highest vote on 13 per cent each.

The Clare FM online poll shows that 9 per cent of people are concerned about household charges and 6 per cent are worried about pensions.

A West Clare GP has decribed as u-turn the Government's decision to drop plans for free GP care for all.

The Health Minister  says that extendign the scheme would overwhelm the primary care system.

Independent candidate, Kilmihil Dr Michael Harty believes the Governments has gone about developing the scheme in the wrong way.
