Heffernan Clare Coach pays tribute to his World Championships win

The Clareman who first coached Ireland’s newest World Athletics Champion has paid tribute to his years of dedication.

Rob Heffernan was first across the line in the Men’s 50 kilometre walk at Moscow this morning, beating his nearest rival by over one minute, and becoming just the third Irish competitor to claim gold at the Championships.

Rob began athletics at Togher Athletics Club when just 12 years old, and was coached there by John Hayes who hails from Corofin in North Clare.

John says watching the race this morning was an emotional experience.
