Heritage Council Claims Tax Incentive Scheme Could Re-Vitalise Ennis

It's claimed the extension of a tax-incentive to encourage the renovation of vacant residential premises could help re-vitalise towns including Ennis.

There is currently a scheme available in Ireland's cities which allows people who renovate properties to claim the cost back over a period of 10 years as long as they remain living in the property during that time.

The latest census figures show almost 500 vacant residential premises in Ennis, excluding holiday homes.

Colm Murray, Architecture Officer with the Heritage Council says the picture is similiar in other large provincial towns across Ireland and the proposed scheme would help to tackle this.
