High Court dismisses action by former council employee

The former manager of a Travellers Halting site in Ennis has had his case for damages against Clare County Council dismissed in the High Court.

Glen McCreanor from Kilnamona, had alleged harassment and intimidation by Travellers, but a High Court judge has granted an application by the council to strike out Glen McCreanor’s case as an abuse of court process.

The 45 year old  of Ballyashea, Kilnamona began working for Clare County council in 2002 as manager of a halting site at Gort Road, Ennis. He had claimed bullying and threats by members of the Travelling community aimed at him resulting in depression and drinking as well as alcoholic hallucinosis.

He claimed he was fit for work of some kind from December 2003, but the council had failed to provide him with any alternative work,  He had sought substantial damages for the alleged incidents which he recorded in a diary given in evidence

But striking out the case Judge John MacMenamin found that the diary  had been substantially altered, saying many innocent entries were "embroidered with details of threats and implications of violence and misconduct" which he said  " could only be seen as doctored falsehoods".
