High Court orders wind up of company behind West County Hotel

The High Court has made an order winding up the company behind the West County Hotel in Ennis, after being informed that it had failed to satisfy a debt of over 500,000 euro owed to Revenue

However, management insists the West County itself will continue to trade as normal as a receiver has been in place since earlier this year.

The company was incorporated in 1975 to carry on the business of a hotel, restaurant, café and caravan site.

At the High Court last evening, Ms Justice Mary Laffoy made an order winding up the West County Hotel (Ennis) Ltd. after being informed that the company was insolvent and unable to pay its debts.

The Revenue Commissioners had petitioned the court seeking to have the company wound up, saying it had not satisfied a 21-day demand for payment of €509,860 for unpaid VAT, PRSI and corporate tax.

The application was unopposed.

Chartered accountant Mr Charlie Hurley of OHB Consulting was appointed to act as liquidator to the company.

The judgement comes four months after the company went into receivership, and in a statement to Clare FM management have insisted this will have no bearing on the Receiver’s position

The hotel, it says, will continue to trade as normal and all bookings are secure.

The matter will return before the court in early June.
