High level of Clare residents in third level

A new CSO report has revealed that Clare has one of the highest number of third level students of any county in Ireland.

The document also reveals a low life expectancy in the area, and that a fifth of Clare motorists have picked up penalty points.

This report on the Regional Quality of Life in Ireland will be used to support moves towards more evidence-based policy making.

On a regional basis, it finds that the Mid-West has had the smallest population growth in the five years to 2011, while a national high of two-thirds of workers in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary travel to work by car.

At 76.3 years for men, and 80.4 for women, people in the three counties also have the shortest life expectancy.

Clare, it’s revealed, has the third highest proportion of third level students of any county in Ireland.

21% of drivers here have penalty points, while over a quarter of Clare residents aged 65 and over live on their own.
