Hillery and Dooley selected to contest Clare Fianna Fail seats

Dr John Hillery has vowed to offer more than just the family name if he’s elected to represent Clare in the upcoming general election.

The son of former president and Spanish Point native Patrick Hillery has been selected unopposed alongside incumbent Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley to contest the four seat constituency for the party.

They were the only two names put forward at yesterday’s convention in Ennis and Dr Hillery takes the place of Defence Minister Tony Killeen who wont be running in the next election.

Dr Hillery described the nomination that he received as ‘the greatest honour’, and says that if he is elected, then he will work hard for people in the county.

In accepting his nomination, Deputy Timmy Dooley admitted that Fianna Fail had made a number of mistakes in it’s time in Government.

However, the East Clare representative is still confident that the party will receive the backing of the public here and return two seats in the upcoming election
