Homeowners get ready for domestic increases

V-A-T, health premiums, and car and home insurance are all set to increase this New Year.

The VAT on most goods and services, such as cars, electronic goods, white goods and luxury items will be raised to 23 per cent from midnight tonight.

However, the Finance Minister says this 2 per cent VAT hike will not apply to some food, children’s clothing or oral medicine.

Families with three or more children will see their child benefit cut in January – while the controversial new household charge of 100 euro will also come into affect.
