The Simon Communities of Ireland say the number of homes available for rent has dropped by 55 per cent in our major towns and cities since May.
In a new study, the charity says only 518 homes were on the rental market in the 11 towns and cities it monitors.

It says 80 per cent of properties for rent were too expensive for those receiving rental assistance payments.
However, Niamh Randall of Simon says the issue of supply is an even bigger issue.
