Tourism providers in the Loop Head Peninsula hope that being named " the best place to holiday in Ireland" will provide a new platform on which to draw in further visitors to the area.
The West Clare coastal area beat off stiff competition from picturesque sights across the country to claim the accolade in a competition run by the Irish Times.

Along with its majestic cliffs and unspoilt landscape , the judges cited the involvement of locals in promoting the area as one of the main reasons it received the top prize.
