Hopes That ECJ Will Give Ireland Permission To Go Ahead With Plain Packaging Laws For Cigarettes

Anti-smoking campaigners are hoping the European Court of Justice will give Ireland permission today to go ahead with plain packaging laws for cigarettes.

Tobacco giants Philip Morris, British American Tobacco and Pillbox 38 took proceedings to the ECJ over an EU directive which would see health warnings on two thirds of tobacco boxes.

Professor Luke Clancy, Director of the Tobacco Free Research Institute, explains why he thinks packing is so important.
