The HSE’s financial chief says the agency has been running short of money because health insurers are stalling on paying for services.
He says insurers don’t provide enough information on why they’re delaying paying for services given to private customers.

Chief financial officer Tom Byrne says insurers regularly refuse to pay for procedures simply because the wrong code was included on a form.
And he says some insurers now want proof that a patient is being given a bed – even when their procedure doesn’t need one.
