HSE not meeting targets for newborn screening

The HSE has failed to meet it’s own guidelines for the care of newborn children, with one in three infants here not being screened in the required period.

It is the executive’s aim for 95% of babies to have received a child development health screening before they reach 10 months of age – the target is not being met in any of it’s regions, but performance is worst in the HSE West region.

Ennis Councillor and member of the Regional Health Forum Brian Meaney believes this is simply unacceptable, even in a time of extensive cutbacks.
