The HSE has come under fire for not implementing recommendations made by health authority HIQUA at Ennis General Hospital.
It’s reported this morning that the Chief Executive of HIQUA Dr Tracey Cooper was so concerned at the lack of urgency shown by the HSE that she raised issue with Health Minister Mary Harney
The implementations came from the HIQUA report into the misdiagnosis of cancer patients at the County Hospital, which included Ann Moriarty and Edel Kelly
The HIQUA report, published in April, made a number of recommendations in relation to the types of conditions that should in future be treated at Ennis, about integrated care in the Midwest, and on leadership and governance of hospitals in the region.
According to this morning’s Irish Times, it’s understood that the perceived lack of speed in tackling the governance issues is especially of concern to Hiqa, which claims patient safety could be compromised as a result.
It’s believed that the HSE is reluctant to move on some of the specific appointments suggested in the report, as it has its own plans to make a number of other appointments under its transformation programme in the coming months.
In a statement, the HSE says that a range of reports, including the one on Ennis General, provide a clear direction for how health services should be organised.
