Figures published in The Irish Times show a 48% increase in the number of people seeking a local authority home here, with 3,001 people now seeking assistance in finding a home.

Figures released by a total of 21 local authorities who responded to the paper's request show 19,000 people joined housing lists in Ireland last year, an average growth of 42%.
