County Clare and the Mid-West is being battered by hurricane like conditions this afternoon.
High winds have reached speeds of 160 kilometres at Shannon and the airport has been closed temproarily due to the adverse weather conditions.
In Kildysart locals have reported cars trapped between fallen trees, the roof of a shed has been blown on to the road in Kilfenora, while numerous routes throughout West and North Clare as well as the Shannon area have been blocked by trees, poles and other fallen debris.
In Ennis, Gardaí say "dozens of roads" are blocked by flooding while a truck has overturned at Junction 12 on the Motorway. A truck has also overturned onthe Gort side of the level crossing at Kiltiernan in South Galway.
Trees had blocked exits of the N18 at Bunratty and Sixmilebridge but Gardaí say these are being cleared. However, "most access routes in the town" are blocked.
Caution urged at Deerpark in Ennistymon – a roof has become unstable there at one of the factories though the road remains open.
Shannon Airport is closed, amid reports that a stationary plane was tipped onto it's wing.
