Increase Recorded In Number of Girls Availing Of HPV Vaccine

The uptake rate for the HPV vaccine has increased to 70% amongst secondary school students.

Seven out of ten first year girls have received the first dose of the vaccine, and are due the next dose from this week.

The HSE says the rise in the numbers availing of the vaccine is “extremely encouraging”.

The figures have been released one year on from when 26-year-old Ennis woman Laura Brennan first told her story of being diagnosed with terminal cervical cancer, and became an outspoken advocate for the vaccine.

She says she’s pleased with today’s news, but wants the numbers to increase even further.
