Cold, calm weather over recent days led to a rise in air pollution throughout the country, and pariculate matter concentrations were above daily limits for three days last week – the situation has since improved.
The EPA has also highlighted poor air quality in Shannon, though Ennis is the only site in the county where real-time data is collated.
The Green Party's Environment Spokesman Micheál Callaghan believes this an indication that the ban on smoky coals in Ennis is being flouted
