Hundreds of additional patients are dealing with increased waiting times for outpatient appointments at hospitals in the UL Hospitals Group.

New figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund find that over 1500 people have been waiting at least 18 months for such an appointment at University Hospital Limerick.

This time last year, that number stood at just 11.

There has also been an increase in Ennis, as well as in waiting lists for inpatient and day cases.

The UL Hospitals Group says there has been growth in demand, an increase in urgent referrals in some areas and a shortage of consultants in others.
