A large portion of Clare’s elderly are suffering through poor living conditions and isolation.
A new report from the Clare Local Development Company has shown that more than one-third of Clare’s elderly live in homes built before 1941
Meanwhile, it’s also been revealed that one in four have no car while almost a fifth have no central heating – people suffering from these problems are mainly located in the West of the county, though elderly people in East Clare are more likely to live alone.
The report was launched in Ennis this week by Junior Minister Aíne Brady who says grants are available to tackle some of these problems, but the issue is getting information about them to elderly people.
