Kevin McMahon from Kilkishen was put on a ventilator in a Spanish hospital following the tragic swimming pool accident in Spain on the 9th of June last.

Almost two weeks later, it was decided to fly Mr McMahon home on a medevac flight.

The 23-year-old was on the way to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance, and efforts by paramedics to revive him failed.

An inquest in Limerick last evening was told that the ambulance was just five minutes from the hospital when Mr McMahon suffered the medical complication and died on June 20.

A post mortem carried out by pathologist, Dr Elizabeth Mulcahy; found that Mr McMahon had suffered a prolonged cardiac respiratory arrest. She said death was due to a cardiac arrest following a near drowning.
