Gardai investigating the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe say every possible resource will be used in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The on-duty garda was shot dead outside the Credit Union in Jenkinstown, Co Louth on Friday night.
The Minister for Justice says it is not yet known who is responsible for the killing but that ‘all possibilities are being considered’.
It’s understood that Detectives in Dundalk believe known criminal gangs are more likely to be responsible than dissident republicans.
The scene of the shooting remains sealed off this morning as Gardai continue their investigation.

Widespread shock has been expressed in Kilkee following the crime, with sympathies expressed to his wife Catherine De Loughrey who is from the town.
