An investigation’s underway into a crash involving a minibus carrying elderly people from the Raheen Day Centre and a car near Tuamgraney.
Six of the 14 passengers where hospitalised while the female driver of the second vehicle had to be cut from the car after the collision yesterday afternoon.
The minibus carrying 14 elderly passengers on their way home from Raheen Day Centre, collided with a car on the Tulla Road in Bodyke at around quarter past four yesterday afternoon.
The Centre’s Emergency plan was put into action and three of the elderly people were taken to Limerick Regional Hospital for assessment, a further three were brought to Ennis General while the remaining 8 were sent back to Raheen Community Hospital – though its understood that there were no serious injuries.
However two elderly people remain in hospital this morning.
The female driver of the car had to be cut from the vehicle and was taken to Limerick Regional Hospital for treatment where her condition is described as stable while the mini bus driver was treated at the scene by paramedics.
The road was closed for a number of hours while a technical examination of the scene was carried out but reopened to traffic after eight last night.
An investigation into the incident is now underway and a spokesperson for the HSE Mid West confirmed to Clare FM that Raheen Day Centre will remain closed today following the collision.
