Gardai in Shannon are continuing to investigate the discovery of a pipe bomb in Shannon Town Centre yesterday. Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on the viable device discovered in the Kincora appartments and forensic examinations are continuing. Just after six o’clock last evening army experts confirmed that the suspicious device found in an unnocupied falt in the Kincora appartmnts was indeed a viable explosive devise – and a controlled expolsion was carried out. The scene was later declared safe returned to normal last night as residents were allowed re-enter the 44 unit appartment block and businesses are getting back to normal today following evacuation of the flats and neighbouring premises. No one was injured in the incident and Gardai are now investigating how the device was placed in the unnocupied appartment, while forensic examinations will be carried out on the remants of the exploded object.
