Iranród Éireann denies the delay in the opening of the Ennis to Galway rail line has anything to do with the recommendations in the Mc McCarthy report.
Fears have been heightened after it emerged this week that the September opening date has been pushed back to December.
The delay is partially due to the removal of machinery for use on another route but it’s also raised fears over the future of the Western Rail Corridor post An Bord Snip which says it might not be viable.
However Iranród Éireann has refuted this and says the project is a little behind already and it was necessary to take machinery from the line to carry out emergency work elsewhere
Clare Fine Gael TD Joe Carey says the ongoing delays are unacceptable is calling for clarification on the official opening of the new stretch of rail line.
