Irish Farmers Hit By Russian Sanctions

The Clare chair of Ireland's largest farming organisation says Russia's decision to impose sanctions on the agri-food sector is a major blow.

Moscow's decision, against all EU countries including Ireland, is in retaliation for sanctions imposed on it for the country's actions in the Ukraine.

Irish exports to Russia were valued at €235 million last year, and the dairy sector is set to take a big hit as cheese products formed a large portion of this.

This isn't the biggest part of Clare's farming industry, but the head of the IFA here Andrew Dundass says it's a blow regardless.
