Irish Rail has confirmed that the Ennis Limerick rail line will re-open next week.
A section of the line near Ballycar in Newmarket on Fergus has under water since December following severe flooding in the area but water have now subsided.
It comes as a local councillor is calling for emergency funding to takle ongoing issues with flooding in the area.
The Ennis Limerick rail line has been closed for four months now after flood waters at Ballycar rose a metre above the tracks.
But there's now light at the end of the tunnel with Irish Rail confirming that it'll re-open next week.
It's not the first time the rail line had to be closed on account of flooding, last year a section further down the track became submerged.
Irish Rail Spokesperson Jane Cregan says services will resume once tests on the tracks are completed.
It comes as calls have been made for emergency funding to tackle the ongoing problems with flooding in the Newmarket on Fergus area.
Councillor Pat McMahon wants works to be carried out, particularly in the areas of Rathfolan, Leminagh Mór and Cleanagh, to ensure people aren't forced out of their homes again in the future.
The Fianna Fáil Councillor insists the funds will be put to good use.
