A new rail stop at Crusheen has moved a step closer with confirmation that a planning application for the facility will shortly be lodged with Clare County Council.
Irish Rail has confirmed that if the planning process goes to plan then it hopes to begin construction this summer, with the first trains stopping in the village early next year.
The stop will link up with the existing western rail line, while a new station will also be built in Oranmore.
The facility in Crusheen will consist of a platform and ticket vending machine, with help points for those with mobility and sensory impairments. Parking facilities will also be provided.
Michael O’Doherty of the Crusheen Rail Stop Campaign Group has welcomed the news
