Belgian police say 8 Irish students have been rescued from a fire at a student residence in the city of Leuven.
A police spokesperson says 2 remain unaccounted for – they’re also believed to be from Ireland and of Polish and Lithuanian origin.

The fire broke out at the residence which is linked to the Irish Institute at about five o’clock Irish time this morning.
The blaze is yet to be brought under control – and fire fighters have been unable to enter the apartments.
