Irish tax laws come under the spotlight again

The Taoiseach will travel to Brussels today for a European council meeting, where Ireland’s tax laws will come under the spotlight again.

It’s after Enda Kenny faced questions yesterday in relation to a US Senate Committee finding that tech giant Apple has used its subsidiaries here to avoid paying billions of dollars in tax.

Today’s summit will discuss moves at EU level to clamp down on tax evasion and fraud.

Ahead of the European Council meeting,  Enda Kenny issued a statement saying that Ireland is committed to fair tax competition between member States.

Brian Keegan Director of Taxation at the Institute of Chartered Accountants, says the US Senate Committee report calls for reform of the US system and is not critical of Ireland.
