Irish Teen To Go On Trial In Egypt

An Irish teenager is to go on trial in Egypt today, over a year after he was arrested in Cairo.

Dublin-born Ibrahim Halawa – whose parents are Egyptian – is accused of murder, attempted murder, and participating in an illegal protest, along with over 490 others.

He was detained along with his three sisters at a mosque in the centre of the city on August 17th, 2013.

His sisters were held for three months before being released.

Ireland's Ambassador to Egypt, Isolde Moylan will attend today's proceedings.
