Irish Water is to begin an extensive investigation into the source of a persistent foul odour in Shannon.
The utility is to carry out a full inspection of the water network in the area and will replace and upgrade any equipment which has fallen into disrepair.

A survey team will also clear sewers where necessary to clear blockages.
Work on 3 million euro project to improve the operation of the local wastewater treatment plant has already begun and it's anticipated this will be completed by the middle of this year.
Aisling Buckley, Regional Information Officer with Irish Water is hopeful the work will alleviate the odour in the area.
