A joint appeal has been launched to the people of Clare to adhere to public health advice, as case numbers continue to rise in the region.
There has been a rise in the number of daily cases of Covid-19 in this county once again, while crisis talks are taking place in neighbouring Limerick after case number have soared.
Health officials have reported over 900 cases in the Mid West in just over two weeks.
The majortity of those are in Limerick, with 103 reported there yesterday and a similar number expected again today.
Though unconfirmed, it’s understood that there were 12 new cases in Clare yesterday, the highest number in the county in a single day since earlier this year.
Public Health Mid West is also currently tracking 91 cases linked with workplace outbreaks in Clare, North Tipperary and Limerick.
Hospital admissions remain low though, with 7 patients currently being treated in the Covid ward at University Hospital Limerick.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn is pleading with people to make every effort to get the situation under control.
There are huge numbers travelling between Clare and Limerick for work, school, work purposes and socialisation and this has prompted concerns that case numbers here could begin to spike.
And though Public Health Midwest has described the situation in Clare as stable at the moment, it’s issued a joint appeal with the UL Hospitals Group, Clare County Council and Clare Gardaí for people to adhere to public health guidelines.
Clare’s Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Triona Brooks says they want to ensure that everyone stays safe over the Bank Holiday weekend.
