There's been a fifty per cent rise in the number of housing units granted planning permission in Clare.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show the approvals for homes jumped by half in 2015 compared with the previous year.

Planning permission was granted for just over 200 houses in Clare last year, up from 134 in 2014.

Figures from the CSO show the highest number of approvals were recorded between the months of July and September, where 40 houses were given the go-ahead.

But this was followed by a fall to 28 in the last quarter of the year, just four more than the same time the previous year.

The figure is also a long way back from peak levels during the boom.

In 2007, planning permission was granted for a total of 613 houses throughout the county.

Last year saw the go-ahead given for 6 apartments to be built, the same as in 2014.
