Loop Head Lighthouse is located at the mouth of the Shannon Estuary on the Loop Head Peninsula.

Its popularity as a location to visit in this county has been consistently increasing in recent years, with a 1.5 percent jump in the past year alone.

From March to November of this year, 24,450 people visited the lighthouse, up from 24,008 in the same period in 2016.

The existing tower was opened in 1854 and was operated by a keeper until 1991, when it was converted to automatic operation.

The Lighthouse opened to the public in 2011, and is managed by Clare County Council in conjunction with the Commissioner of Irish Lights.
