The Justice Minister says it’s a ‘matter of regret’ that an anti-war activist jailed following a protest at Shannon Airport did not enter into a bond of good behaviour.
79-year-old Margaretta D’Arcy is serving a three-month prison term following her refusal to sign a bond to uphold the law and keep away from unauthorised zones at Clares International airport.
Alan Shatter has assured the Dáil that D’Arcy, a parkinson’s sufferer, has full access to the range of medical services available in Limerick Prison, a 24-hour nursing service and access to a doctor daily if requested or on referral by the nursing staff.
Minister Shatter told the house that signing the bond to keep the peace would result in the womans immediate release.
