Reports say an internal review has been ordered at the Department of Justice, following claims that Minister Alan Shatter did nothing to investigate allegations of Garda malpractice, despite knowing about them for two years.
Sgt Maurice McCabe's allegations relate to a number of cases involving serious offences, including the background of the investigation into the murder of Sixmilebridge woman Sylvia Roche Kelly in 2007.
The Taoiseach, who received a copy of the dossier this week, has described the claims as 'grave' but Fianna Fáil claims Minister Shatter has known about them since January 2012.
Meanwhile, the Minister says he had to fire the Garda Confidential Recipient Oliver Connolly.
In a statement last night, Alan Shatter says he fired Oliver Connolly, the Garda Confidential Recipient, after the failed to deny that he had told Sergeant McCabe that the Minister would be angry were his claims to reach the media.
