The 79-year-old is still in detention after she had a three-month prison sentence activated in Januray because she had refused to sign a bond to uphold the law and keep away from unauthorised zones at Shannon, having previously protested on the runway there.

In the Dáil today, Independent TD Mich Wallace said Ms. D'Arcy should be released, as it was of no use to the State for a 79-year old woman to stay behind bars.

However, Minister Alan Shatter insisted the justice system cannot go easy on they anti-war campaigner.
