Clareman Declan Kelleher has declared the highest amount of donations of all candidates in April’s election to Seanad Eireann.
Figures released by the Standards in Public Office Commission show the Corofin Principal declared a total of over 8,500 euro following his unsuccessful bid to be elected to the upper house earlier this year.
Over half of the money came from a race night which was organised on his behalf, while 2,500 euro came by way of a grant from the Irish National Teachers Organisation, which had endorsed his candidacy on the National University of Ireland panel.
The remainder was donated to him by the Retired Teachers’ Association of Ireland.
Eight other candidates declared donations during the election, though none of these came from County Clare.
