The new Mayor of Kilkee has vowed to fight moves to abolish town Councils.
Fianna Fail Councillor Claire Haugh has been elected Mayor of Kilkee for the 5th time in her 27 year town council career, with Councillor Mary Owens elected as her deputy.

This years Council AGMs are expected to be dominated by the focus on the future role of smaller local authorities as Minister Phil Hogan continues a cost cutting review.
