The community of Kilmaley is said to be in shock following the death of an 18-year-old man in a car crash.

Former Rice College Ennis pupil Oisín Cahill died on impact in the early hours of yesterday morning when the car he was travelling in collided with a wall on the Shanaway Road, near Hotel Woodstock.

The driver and a second passenger, aged 19 and 21, were taken to University Hospital Limerick where they remain in a critical condition.

They have been named as Darragh Killeen, a first cousin of Oisín’s, and Enda Hickey.

They had been involved with the Kilmaley U21 hurlers in their final against Inagh/Kilnamona just hours earlier.

In a statement, Kilmaley GAA said Oisín will never be forgotten.

Tributes have been left at the scene of the accident including a Kilmaley GAA jersey.

Independent Ennis Councillor James Breen is a neighbour of the Cahill family:

Oisín’s funeral details have been announced.

He will be laid to rest in Kilmaley Cemetery following a 1pm funeral mass on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them on 065 684 8100.

It is with great sadness that Rice College learned of the tragic death of Oisín Cahill on Sunday.

As a past student, we remember him as a vibrant and active young man.

Our sympathies go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are also with the others who are injured and in hospital.
