129 years of local government in West Clare has come to an end following the final meeting of Kilrush Town Council this week.
Government reforms have lead to the abolition of Clare's four urban authorities, and to mark the historic occasion, Town Councillors in Kilrush held their last gathering in the courthouse, the site of their first meeting in 1885.

Past members and their families also attended at reception at the Vandeleur Walled Garden but before the festivities, the council moved to ensure that remaining funds would go towards the future development of housing and amenities in Kilrush.
