At the sentencing hearing last June retired consultant psychiatrist Dr Patrick O Beirne said a custodial sentence would be disproprotionate and unhelpful while one of the victims told the court that he forgave the 64 year old for what he did to him thirty years earlier . He later wrote a letter to the DPP urging him to appeal the sentence handed down.
