Lahinch Councillor Hits Out At TII Over Blake’s Corner

A Lahinch Councillor has hit out at Transport Infrastructure Ireland over it's failure to meet with the local authority to discuss Blake's Corner.

It comes as Clare County Council can now push ahead with plans to deal with congestion in the notorious traffic blackspot, following a ruling by An Bord Pleanala.

An inspector on behalf of An Bord Pleanála has raised concerns about plans to address traffic issues at Blake's Corner on a number of grounds, including the impact on other protected structures.

But the national planning authority has now rejected a recommendation and deemed that an environmental impact statement is not required for proposed works there.

The authority's five-person board has also ruled that a Natura Impact Statement is also not needed.

This paves the way for Clare County Council to push ahead  with the planning process that would eventually see a decision taken on the project by all Councillors.

Ennistymon Fianna Fáil Councillor Richard Nagle thinks it's good news for the town.

But funding for the project remains unclear.

In a separate development in July, Transport Infrastructure Ireland rejected the plans as an "interim solution" and local representatives are still awaiting a meeting to resolve the matter.

Lahinch Fine Gael Councillor Bill Slattery is frustrated with the TII's failure to meet with the Council.
