Huge crowds have gathered in Dublin for the main event of this Easter Commemoration weekend.

More than 3,500 personnel from the army, An Garda Siochana, the Fire Service, Coast Guard and civil defence are taking part.

The parade started at St Stephens' Green at 10am and will pass a number of areas that were flash points during the Rising including the Royal College of Surgeons and Dublin Castle.

It will then arrive at the GPO where the president will lay a wreath and there will be a minutes silence for all those who died in the conflict.

The proclamation will be read aloud and the air corps will do a fly-by over the GPO.

People attending are reminded that much of Dublin City Centre is restricted this afternoon, and Luases are not running due to strike action.
