Shannon Airport’s expected to be extremely busy today as the final pre-Christmas travel push takes place.
The airport is operating as normal but management is still advising passengers to contact their airlines before setting out given the disruption caused by the ongoing freeze.
Over half a dozen Dublin bound flights were again diverted to the Mid West yesterday but its reported that Servisair, which operates as ground handler to the majority of non-Aer Lingus aircraft at Shannon, has asked Dublin not to forward any more, citing shortages of de-icing fluid with which to treat its existing fleet.
After another night of sub zero temperatures, drivers are urged to take it easy on the roads especially if they have a long journey ahead.
Gardaí in Clare say all main routes are clear and gritted but just to exercise caution on the side and back roads- again particularly in the West and the north of the county.
However road conditions across much of the country remain perilous and for the most part, public transport is running – but with some delays and diversions in place.
Inspector John Galvin, Head of Clare’s Traffic Division is appealing to the public to slow down.
